How To Get Chromebook Automated Update End-of-Life (AUE)

All Chrome devices(e.g. Chromebook, Chromebase, Chromebox, Chromebit) receive updates automatically that effect both the device and its software. These updates give send out the latest features that help keep the devices secure and are applied to the operating system, browser and hardware. These updates include many device centered non-Google hardware and software providers that team up with Google to help provide the highest level of protection and support. It is due to this that older devices cannot receive indefinite updates to enable newer OS and browser features.

All devices run on Chrome will receive updates on a regular basis from Google until the devices reaches a pre-determined date call the Auto Update Expiration(AUE). Once a device hits this date, then the automatic updates from Google will stop being provided.

The Chrome devices that have not reached the assigned AUE date will still receive OS updates. This will allow them to continue functioning with Chrome Education and Chrome Enterprise Upgrades. Once this date is reached, certain existing and future policies will start to not work. The devices will also no longer receive technical support.

How to find AUE date in the Admin Console

If you devices are with Google Education or Enterprise, the AUE date will be available in you Admin console.

1. In your Google Admin console (at admin.google.com).

2. Devices>Chrome devices (you will need administrator privileges).

3. View Auto-update expiration field.

You can also find this information the programs such as Chromebook Getter. This information can be found in the Support End Date Column. You can also run a report to keep track of how many devices you have hitting this date every year.
